Zak Brown says Mercedes haven't provided McLaren with their latest power unit spec

Uneven title defense

McLaren’s early-season title defense has been undermined by a combination of performance shortfalls and power-unit reliability problems. The team is currently third in the constructors’ championship.[1]

Engine delay

Brown said McLaren is the only Mercedes-powered team that has not yet received the newest engine specification. The team hopes to obtain it in time for the Belgian Grand Prix.[1]

Possible recovery

The upgrade could help reduce McLaren’s deficit, particularly if it improves reliability as well as outright pace. However, Mercedes’ large points advantage means McLaren must make progress while also relying on setbacks from its rivals.[1][2]

Late-season outlook

Brown expects both McLaren and Red Bull to reach the top step of the podium before the season ends, suggesting the championship may become more competitive even if Mercedes remains the clear favorite.[1]
