AOC, Rubio lead in latest 2028 presidential primary poll
What the polls show
The polls suggest Democrats are still searching for a standard-bearer. Ocasio-Cortez, Pete Buttigieg, Gavin Newsom and others are clustered close enough that small shifts in attention could change the early picture quickly.
That makes the current horse-race numbers more useful as a measure of name recognition and intraparty appeal than as a prediction of the final nominee.
Why it stands out
AOC’s rise is notable because she is not a traditional presidential launch candidate. Her strong showing points to appetite among some Democratic voters for a more activist and combative style, especially after the party’s recent setbacks.
At the same time, her lead in polling does not settle the broader question of who can assemble the most durable coalition in a general election. That tension is likely to define the next two years of early speculation.
What's ahead
The next major cue will come from whether any of the leading names begin acting like candidates before 2027. Fundraising, travel schedules and messaging will likely matter more than early survey margins.
For now, the field remains wide open, and polling is mainly identifying who already has national reach.
