Reza Pahlavi supports Iran protest as unrest expands
Renewed public claims
Pahlavi’s recent messages have sought to establish him as a national figure rather than merely an exiled critic. He has called for the end of theocratic rule and says he is prepared to guide a post-regime transition.
The exile problem
His absence from Iran remains a structural weakness. Support from diaspora communities or online audiences may provide visibility, but it does not necessarily translate into influence over protesters, local political actors, or the security apparatus.
Communication limits
Internet shutdowns and censorship make it difficult to assess the scale and independence of his support inside the country. They also make coordination between an exiled opposition figure and domestic networks more difficult.
Near-term outlook
Unless a major political rupture occurs, Pahlavi is unlikely to move directly from exile into uncontested leadership. A more plausible near-term possibility is participation in a wider transitional coalition, if one forms.
